Introduction to Video: Look, Listen, Analyze

Part 3: Empire Strikes back

For the first part, when I just analyze the camera work, I notice at the beginning it is zoomed out. It just shows how intense the fight is. It shows Vader and Luke fighting at a frightening height. When Vader cuts off Lukes arm it shows only Vader on the screen, I see this as an act of dominance and it seem he has won the fight. It then pans to Luke zoomed in without his weapon, crying.

For the second part, just listening to the audio adds to the intensity. You hear the sabers clanking off one another and at a moment in time the swing at the same time and you can tell by the sounds. Towards the end of the fight around the time Lukes arm is cut off, music begins to play. Now from watching all of these movies many times it is the type of music that plays when Vader is on the screen. It shows that he has won the fight. Then the music dies down and allows Vader to tell Luke he is his father. Which is one of the most memorable scenes in all of Star Wars.

For the final part, it is really hard to write this paragraph because I have watched this movie many times. It is hard to miss something in it. One thing could be that whenever Vader gets struck by the lightsaber you can hear him groan then visually get more angry, which allows for him to push Luke back further.
